Hearing Aids

At Ahrens Hearing Center, we understand that choosing the right hearing aid for your hearing loss needs can be challenging. We are dedicated to working alongside our patients in our patients in Paramus and Hackensack, New Jersey and that’s just one of the reasons that they have been entrusting their hearing healthcare to us since 1968.
After a series of routine testing, we ask questions about your hearing. From there, we will discuss your results and find a solution for your type of hearing loss. We will also ask about your lifestyle and expectations, as well as your budget.

What are the basic types of hearing aids?

  • ric new
  • Receiver In-The-Ear (RITE) – Similar to the BTE hearing aid but with a unique trait: the speaker is placed inside of the ear canal and there are thin electrical wires instead of the acoustic tube to make it discreet. RITE aids are typically used for adults with mild to severe hearing loss.
  • ite new
  • Hearing Aids In-The-Ear (ITE) – Contained in a shell that fills in the outer part of the ear, where the faceplate can be seen. ITE aids are larger than the ITC and CIC aids, which may be easier to handle than smaller aids for some patients.
  • itc new
  • Hearing Aids In-The-Canal (ITC) – Ideal for first time users. Enclosed in tiny cases that can fit partly or completely into the ear canal. Smallest hearing aids available. May be difficult to handle and adjust for some patients..
  • cic new
  • Hearing Aids Completely In-The-Canal (CIC) – Similar to ITC aids. Small and undetectable in the ear, yet are powerful. They are available with programmable options for different environments. Recommended for those with mild to severe hearing loss.
  • bte new
  • Hearing Aids Behind-The-Ear (BTE) – Small, yet sturdy visible plastic case rests behind the ear and the case is connected to an earmold or earpiece by clear tubing. Often chosen for young children because it can accommodate numerous earmold types, because they need replaced as the child grows into adulthood. BTE aids are the easiest to clean and handle.

We’re excited to be able to offer the new Lyric extended wear hearing aids. These devices are placed within your ear, near your eardrum and will remain there until the battery needs to be changed, usually for up to four months. They are invisible, comfortable and offer incredible sound quality. Because the entire device sits inside the ear, some people may not be a candidate for these devices, based on their ear size and shape.

We carry a wide range of brand name hearing aids from some of the nation’s leading manufacturers such as Widex, Oticon, Phonak, Lyric, Unitron and more. Visit our manufacturers page for additional information.

At Ahrens, we are by your side for every step of your journey to better hearing. You’ll find our office in Fairlawn, New Jersey but we provide superior hearing healthcare to residents of the surrounding areas, including Paramus and Hackensack. Contact us today to schedule your appointment.
